Truck Derby

 

Mandatory - All work must be done prior to arrival at the event !!!

 

 

All drivers MUST have a DOT or CSA approved full-faced helmet with safety glasses or shield. Driver MUST wear long sleeve shirt and pants or coveralls. A fire suit and gloves are Highly Recommended. All vehicles MUST have DOT seat belts properly secured. All vehicles MUST have a CSA approved 2lb dry chemical fire extinguisher securely mounted within reach. This is for your safety in case of a fire within the car.

 

½ and ¾ ton pickup trucks, vans, suburban, bronco & blazers will be allowed to run.

4x4’s  will only be allowed to run one drive shaft.

 

1.      Remove all glass, including side mirrors, front windshield, headlights, taillights, and any light bulbs (interior / exterior). No broken glass within doors.

2.      Remove all chrome, moldings, clips for molding and emblems, antenna, wipers, trim, door handles.

3.      Remove any fiberglass and plastic, including any materials that are flammable such as carpet, head liner, upholstery, rear top and bottom seat, passenger seat (if applicable) and door panels. The dashboard may remain within the truck. Vehicle MUST be free of any loose objects inside and bed. Remove spare tire and jack. Insulation under the hood must be removed. All fiberglass header panels and rear 

panels must be removed. Any metal that a magnet does not stick to must be removed.

4.      Do not mount any objects on the outside of the truck.

5.      Truck Number: You MUST display your number on each side of the truck (preferably the driver and passenger doors), and on the roof - Have a white background w/ black number(s). The numbers must be 18”or more in height on the doors, and 24” or more in height on the roof.

6.      Radiator: MUST remain in a stock position (in front of motor).

7.      Flush all antifreeze from the system, Water only!

8.       A/C (air conditioning): system must be empty of Freon. Cut the hoses or remove the entire system.

9.      Mufflers MUST be removed. Exhaust system may exit straight through the hood. Exhaust stacks not to exceed past the roof of the truck. If exhaust system runs under the truck, it MUST exit the sides past the driver’s compartment.

10. No trailer hitches. The entire system MUST be removed.

11. Battery: Only one battery allowed. Battery ONLY can be moved to a different location under the hood. Battery can be mounted within the truck, but must be securely fastened with a 4-point hold down system and covered by a non-conductive material.

12. Transmission cooler: Can be mounted inside the car and must be covered, but MUST be in a safe place and securely mounted. If the mounting is loose, you will not pass inspection. Hydraulic lines are recommended, no fuel lines. All lines running inside the truck MUST run through some type of other hose

13. Cage: A 4 bar interior cage may be used w/ 4 kicker bars mounted to the floor. Do not attach any part of this cage to the frame. One bar across the dash (MUST be above the steering column), one bar behind the driver’s seat and two bars (along each door) connecting the dash bar to the bar behind the drivers seat. Do not extend past the cab.  Rollover bar is optional. You may reinforce the driver’s seat in any manor you wish.

14. DOT approved seat belts properly secured to truck body.

15. Truck Bed: can only be factory mounts only. You may remove rubber mounts. You may weld or bolt (in four places) the back of the cab to the bed. No additional welding or bolts. Tailgates need to be welded shut with 4 plates (2”x6” plates). No other reinforcements allowed. Wood floor beds must have factory metal strips. No steel replacement floors.

16. Gas Tanks: Remove the factory gas tank. A five-gallon fuel cell is highly recommended installed in the cab or in the front center of the bed directly behind the cab on a fuel tank plate.  (no larger than 6 gallons). MUST be securely mounted to the floor w/ bolts (using a 4-point hold down system). CSA approved Marine tanks are acceptable. No plastic or jerry cans allowed. All connections (lines) must be secured and leak proof. Fuel lines MUST have leak proof fittings. No plastic lines allowed, MUST be rubber or steel. Keep lines away from the exhaust systems! Fuel lines must be protected by steel pipe, tubing or a hose within a hose. Only Gasoline or diesel fuel allowed in tanks. Holes MUST be drilled under and around fuel cell / tank – in case of gas spillage. Trucks with electric fuel pumps MUST have a safety shut off switch mounted with easy access. If your fuel cell / tank is loose, you will not pass inspection!! Fuel cell / tanks MUST be completely covered with a fireproof shield. The shield must be mounted separate from the fuel cell / tank. The shield MUST have four sides, a top and must be made of metal. Do not cover fuel cell / tank until after inspection.

17. Bumpers: Must be stock OEM bumpers. Bumper manufacturer does not have to match the truck manufacturer. Do not reinforce the bumper by “adding something to it”(i.e.…welding an extra bar behind the bumper). You will not pass inspection. Excessive fabrication subject to the officials discretion. Do not weld your bumpers to anything except shocks or mounting brackets. The bumper shocks can be welded so that the bumpers do not come off of the car. You may collapse the bumper shocks.

18. Hood: latch and hinge springs MUST be removed before inspection. Hood must have original (factory) hinges or similar hinges. Do not secure hood until inspection. A 12” diameter hole MUST be cut above carburetor, if your not running exhaust through the hood. When securing hood – no more than 4 All Threads allowed from the hood to the frame. Any holes cut in the firewall MUST be covered or filled with non-flammable material.

                                                 

19. Welding: Body and Frame must be stock. Absolutely no welding of body to the frame. Do not fill inside of frame or add to the outside of frame …. DO NOT REINFORCE THE FRAME!!! Repairs to a frame must be approved.

20. Doors: We will allow welding of four 2”x6” plates on each door. You may use chains to secure doors.

21. Engine: Must be in stock position. Any motor, transmission, rear combination is permitted. Firewall may not be altered for motor clearance. There is allowance for distributor. Fill any holes made in firewall with non-flammable material. Engine can be chained to frame and motor mounts can be altered. Welding of drive shaft is allowed. Any u-joints or drive shaft may be used.

22. Suspension: Suspension must be stock. Leaf spring - will be allowed four clamps on leaf springs in order to keep the springs from separating. Do not weld leaf springs together. Do not add leaves to spring assemblies. Coil spring - will be allowed to weld the rear end spring perch to the spring to prevent the springs from blowing apart. Do not change leaf spring trucks to coil springs or vice versa. You can lock your rear. Do not use shims or spacers to raise the rear end. Do not weld suspension components including lower & upper control arms, tie rods, etc.

23. Tires: only DOT approved tire can be used. Tires are to be filled with air only. No studded tires,  tractor tires, doubled tires or split rims. No screws in rim to hold tire. Tires are to be no taller than 34”. Remove wheel weights.

24. Lift Kits: no lift kits or suspension lift kits, or mod of any kind.
